Legislative Committee

This committee shall:
a. keep the members informed on local, state, and national legislation;
b. work with the Legislative Committee of TRTA concerning educational legislation;
c. stimulate active interest in legislation for the common welfare. (ARTA Standing Rules, July 1, 2023)

Our most important issue in the fall of 2023 is the vote on November 7, 2023 on a constitutional amendment granting retired teachers in Texas a COLA for their retirement annuity. Retired teachers in Texas have not had a COLA since 2004.
